[Nations were generally pretty sturdy. There wasn't a lot that could harm them and there wasn't a lot that could make them sick. In fact, there was pretty much nothing that could make them sick. Except for the stupid cold they got whenever the economy took a turn for the worse. When that happened there really wasn't much that could be done except deal with it until it stopped. This was currently the case with Spain and for some reason Romano was the one tasked with dealing with it.

Probably because he had volunteered and kicked France out of the house]

You just had to get sick today, didn't you? I have work to do, damn it. [He sighs, running a hand through his hair] Anyway, do you want....soup or something?

But I'm sick! [He manages to sound like whiny petulant child. Even though he's supposed to be an adult.]

[Romano gives him a flat look]

How old are you again? Because I'm pretty sure it's somewhere around 2,000 and not five. Come on, you're perfectly capable of feeding yourself.

[tierradelsol]

[Spain gives him a pout but it doesn't last long, staying upset is tiring when he's healthy and now that he's sick it's even more tiresome. So he grabs the spoon and begins eating.]

But you're supposed to take care of me.

[pecorinoromano]

[The pout just receives a glare and Romano crosses his arms over his chest. He's not going to admit that he does feel a little bad for refusing. Just a little]

I am taking care of you. Who made you the soup in the first place? [He huffs and sits down at the foot of the bed, careful not to jostle the tray and spill food everywhere] You're sick, not helpless.

And it is a good soup. [Nom nom nom slowly but surely eating.]

But what can I say? I like mimitos when I'm sick si?

You're damn right it is. Home-made, none of that canned shit. And it isn't Veneziano's recipe either. [If there's one thing he's legitimately proud of, it's his cooking. And it isn't just false pride for the sake of talking big. It's real pride. He's a good cook and he knows it]

You like that all the time. [Spain is affectionate always. That's nothing new] You're just trying to milk this for all it's worth.

[tierradelsol]

[Spain smiles sheepishly as he wiggles his legs under the blankets, not even trying to deny it. He comes from the land of passion after all.]

I like it when you cook. [Change of subject: get.]

[pecorinoromano]

[Romano is aware of all of this. And honestly he doesn't mind, even if he acts like he does. Spain has always been the only one to show him any kind of affection. Well, besides Veneziano but he's affectionate in a clingy way and that gets annoying]

Of course you do. I'm good at it. [It's weird how he alternates between being arrogant and having no self esteem] And anyway it's not like I can leave you to cook for yourself when you're sick. You'd probably burn the house down so.....

I wouldn't burn the whole house down! I would just get myself a little milk with ginger and a lot of honey. I used to do that for you when you got sick, you know?

[He sniffs, this cold really got him bad.]

[pecorinoromano]

I remember. [It's sort of funny, taking care of him like this when it was always the opposite] To be fair, I was sick a whole fucking lot when I was little. Stupid economy and stupid Veneziano.

[A huff of breath and he lays back on the bed, folding his arms underneath his head]

I didn't bring any of that but I did bring tea.

[tierradelsol]

Tea is good! Maybe later we can both have some. I am full with just the soup now.

[He pets the bed on his side, it's not the enormous bed he had when Romano was little but it's still big.] You can lie down with me, you know? I'm not America, I will not pass the cold to you.

[pecorinoromano]

Drink the tea anyway. It'll help. [He looks at Spain upside for a minute, frowning, before standing up and moving to sit next to Spain instead of at the foot]

America's a dick. [Unrelated but still true]

[tierradelsol]

[As soon as Romano is nearby enough he shifts to put his arms around him, letting his head rest on his shoulder. He wasn't lying when he said he wanted cuddles.]

You can't blame him though, it's all England's fault. He was not a good caretaker like Boss was.

[pecorinoromano]

[Romano doesn't fight the cuddling. In fact, he leans his head against Spain's]

England's a dick too. And I wouldn't be bragging about your ability to raise kids if I were you. Just saying.

[tierradelsol]

Whaaat? [He nuzzles him a bit.] You grew up just fine.

[pecorinoromano]

Yeah, no thanks to you. [He's well aware that he's still kind of a brat. He just doesn't want to admit that to anyone ever. He's also pretty sure he'd be worse if it wasn't for Spain but, again, never going to admit that] I mean, your fucking Spanish lessons. Who the hell teaches a kid how to say "kiss me" first? How was that supposed to help me?

[tierradelsol]

[He laughs at the memory, the cold apparently putting him in a good mood despite how shitty he's feeling overall.]

You used it like five minutes later on my Queen! Don't try to act like you were completely innocent. I had to keep you away from women all the time.

[pecorinoromano]

Hey, your Queen was pretty. That's hardly my fault. [He also used it on Belgium. He likes flirting with women, don't judge him] Besides, that was the only thing you taught me how to fucking say at that point. What else was I supposed to say? You didn't even teach me how to greet people! Just how to ask for a kiss.

[tierradelsol]

[He doesn't give him an answer because he doesn't really have one. He had never had a kid under his care and he tried his best, but he definitely made a lot of mistakes with the tiny bundle of anger and teaching him how to ask for a kiss was sadly not one of his biggest mistakes.]

But you eventually learned, didn't you? And without an accent. I wish I knew Italian as well as you know Spanish. [He always spoke French better, but he isn't about to rub that in.]

[pecorinoromano]

[Romano isn't really bothered. He talks big about how dumb Spain was and how bad he sucked as a caregiver but...he was actually pretty good. He put up with Romano's attitude, fed him, influenced his culture enough that it set him apart from his brother and allowed him to continue to be his own entity.....]

Yeah, eventually. I guess. [He scoffs] Your Italian still sucks. It's really damn obvious you're from a different country when you try to speak it. That's why I mostly gave up getting you to learn it. Too much hassle.

[tierradelsol]

[He stifles a yawn, shifting to curl himself closer around Romano as he nuzzles his shoulder.]

'm not good at languages. Why d'ya think I made all of my protectorates learn Spanish?

[pecorinoromano]

I always thought it was because you were a greedy bastard and wanted a bunch of Nations running around speaking your language. [It's said more like an honest assessment than it is an insult] Anyway, if you're tired you should go to sleep.

[tierradelsol]

That too. [He's not exactly proud of how he acted when the conquering-fever hit him, but he doesn't try to hide it either. It's just what it is.]

'm not sleeping while you're here.

[pecorinoromano]

[Romano always does his best not to comment on that point in history]

Why the hell not? It's not like I'm gonna sneak out while you're sleeping or something.

[He lets out a loud hmm that speaks tons of how Spain thought that was exactly what Romano was going to do.]

Can't you just lie down with me until I fall asleep? [He shows him the empty bowl of soup] I'm done eating anyway...
