Tony sucks

[It's 1:30 in the morning and Carol finally has a chance to sleep. She's been up since five the previous morning and is more than ready for it. So, of course, just as she was getting ready to sleep, Tony had to call her and ask to come over. As annoyed as she was, she found herself unable to say no. So when Tony shows up she answers the door in her pajamas (a t shirt and a pair of cotton shorts), hair pulled up and displeased look on her face]

You so better appreciate this, Stark. Come in.
definingfuture: (T - I'm always telling the truth.)

Why does Tony suck!?

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-03-13 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[At least 1:30 isn't his usual 4am. That's around the time he generally gives up on sleep entirely. Tonight (this morning?) he made the call much sooner, and contacted Carol to see if she was up for company. Even though she agreed, she looks disgruntled when she answers the door. He smiles awkwardly as a way to placate her and holds up a small bag.]

I appreciate it. And I appreciate you not killing me for it. See? I brought you a present.

[He does enter her apartment, offering over the bag as he does.]
definingfuture: (T - And what did I do this time?)

But Carol!

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-03-19 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
A surprise!

[He's maybe a little more upbeat than he should be about this, but it's Tony. He's happy to have the company. And he managed to get her ice cream! Surely she can forgive him some late night visiting?]

I didn't wake you up, did I?
definingfuture: (T - And this fucking thing.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-03-24 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
You make it sound like I'm doing something ungenerous. I'm always nice!

[He says that, but he's smiling like a cat might if it were capable to giving that expression. Tony knows he's being troublesome.]

Good. At least I'm only interrupting your bad TV schedule. You feeling okay? Haven't seen you lately and thought I'd check in.
definingfuture: (T - Oh precious you have no idea.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-04-08 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Tony knows how to placate the fierce power house that is Carol Danvers. A tribute of quality ice cream can at least buy him some leeway.]

You ever think that maybe there's a problem with that being the usual?

[He's only partially kidding, because Carol would probably get bored if she didn't have things to punch. And they take care of the crazies pretty well, but sometimes Tony thinks it would be better if they didn't have to deal with those crazies at all.]

Good. Great. No giant robots destroying the city lately, so that's a plus. Corporate sabotage has gone out of style lately, though. I kind of miss it.
definingfuture: (T - And this fucking thing.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-04-20 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
Sure.

[The ice cream of course is just the prelude to soften the oncoming Tony Stark Time Carol will have to face. He knows what it's like to be around himself, and ice cream helps.

That probably says he's gearing up for something.]

You know, some people would say that the fact no one is trying to sabotage them now just means that they're preparing bigger problems to drop on them later. That's how this kind of thing works. There's always something coming.
definingfuture: (T - I'm still awake.)

carol your face

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-04-29 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
If there's always something, then we can put off worrying about it until later, right?

[Tony's logic works well sometimes.]

To be honest, I think we could all use more fun time. You remember when protecting people was fun?

[Tony flops onto her couch pretty easily. Sorry, Carol, he is pretty good at making himself at home.]

Maybe this is a slump.
definingfuture: (Tony - Better than yesterday.)

it really is

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-05-08 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
I can't just be bringing you ice cream?

[He tries for an innocent expression. The kind that asks how she could think he'd be coming to spill his thoughts to her, but the truth is hard to cover up. Tony only manages to hold that innocent look briefly before he sighs.]

Okay, okay. I just... thought maybe we could hang out. You know, like things used to be. I miss that.

[Maybe she doesn't really understand, but Tony has decided that it doesn't matter now. He just wants a little time to get that off his chest.]

I used to like doing this.
definingfuture: (T - I'm still awake.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-05-18 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
You know me. [He smiles agreeably.] But sometimes I can just like to treat my friend, right?

[The smile wavers slightly, held together by years of practice.]

That's one way to put it. It used to be easier. Wasn't it? I remember it being a lot easier to do good.
definingfuture: (T - Lying to your face.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-05-22 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Carol shrugs, and Tony sees that she's not really following what he's saying, but that's okay. He hadn't come to Carol for support so much as for company, and she always does provide that.]

That's never stopped us before. [He says us but mean me, something he's sure Carol already knows. But Tony smiles, brushing away the depressing note he had.]

What I mean is, shouldn't we get out and do more? I know I haven't exactly been team-friendly lately, but I was hoping you'd let me change that.
definingfuture: (Default - I never sleep.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-06-04 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Tony knows his mind is hard to follow. But Carol seems to do pretty well, or at least it doesn't seem to matter too much.]

Starting over. We haven't lost the drive, but I feel like we've lost our connection. Maybe it's time we get that back.
definingfuture: (T - I forgot my pants. Again.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-07-04 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
No. [Oops, that was a little short.] No, no more teams. I- I think I'm pretty much done with teams.

[At least for a while. He can't necessarily quit, but maybe it's time to cut loose and start over. That's what Tony is good for, right?]

I was just thinking. You know... got restless and decided to go for a walk. In the air.
definingfuture: (T - Stand in the desert.)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-08-28 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
And guess what? You were great at leading the Avengers. It was the right choice.

[He pauses, trying to find the words.]

Maybe I'm not. Doing more good, I mean.
definingfuture: (T - Can I touch it?)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2014-11-11 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I let you lead. You were the leader.

I was just overseeing the leading.

[Totally harmless, right? Right. He smiles wryly at the answer, nodding slowly as he seems to come to a decision.]

You're right. Thanks, Carol. I'm going to sit Avengers business out for a while. I just need some time off, and like you said, you're able to handle things without me. I just wanted to be sure.
definingfuture: (T - And what did I do this time?)

[personal profile] definingfuture 2015-01-28 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Baw, that's nice, Carol. He likes getting to spend time with you without the constant threat of attack. Ice cream time is good time.]

Hey, I can last longer than that! I trust you guys to take care of things. You don't need me out there...

[He can't help it half the time, though. She's right. Usually something happens to draw him back in.]
